Freedom through direct experience

See clearly. Experience freedom. Live differently.

Aquila is a small group built around honest conversation, direct experience, and a simple question: what is actually true here, now?

This isn’t about adopting another belief system.

This group isn’t about religion or spirituality, and it isn’t about adopting a new philosophy, practice, or way of thinking. We're not interested in replacing one set of beliefs with another.

What we're interested in is Truth. Not truth as something someone else tells us we should believe, but what we can actually see and experience directly for ourselves. So much of our suffering comes from believing the constant movement of the mind. We believe our fears, judgments, expectations, memories, assumptions, and all of the stories we have about ourselves, other people, and what is happening in our lives. A thought arises, we believe it, and before we know it we’re experiencing that thought as though it is reality. But is it? A thought about what is happening is not the same thing as what is actually happening. A belief about who you are isn’t necessarily who you are. A fear about what might happen in the future isn’t what is happening right here, right now.

What we’ll actually do

We’ll slow things down, look directly at what we’re experiencing, and begin questioning some of the things we’ve assumed to be true. We won’t do that so we can get rid of “bad” beliefs and replace them with better ones. We’re not looking for something new to believe. We’re looking to see what is actually True when belief isn’t necessary.

  • LOOK - Notice what is actually happening before the mind explains, labels, judges, or predicts.

  • QUESTION - Explore the thoughts and stories creating fear, conflict, pressure, or unnecessary suffering.

  • EXPERIENCE - Discover what remains when we stop automatically believing every movement of thought.

“I don’t want anyone in this group to believe something simply because I say it. I want us to look for ourselves.”

The purpose is freedom.

Freedom from unnecessary suffering, from being controlled by fear, from the stories we’ve carried about who we are and who we’re supposed to be, and from constantly fighting against ourselves, other people, and life as it is.What becomes possible when we’re no longer being driven by all of that? What could our relationships look like? What could we create? What decisions might we make differently? What kind of life becomes available when fear, conditioning, and the constant stories of the mind are no longer running everything? This isn’t about learning another way to think about life. It’s about seeing clearly, experiencing freedom for ourselves, and discovering what becomes possible when we begin living from that freedom.
